Weather Update: Odisha Anticipates Relief from Heat, IMD Predicts Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Residents of Odisha can expect some respite from the sweltering heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a gradual decrease in night temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Dry weather is expected to prevail across the state initially, followed by the likelihood of light rainfall in certain areas over the subsequent three days. Additionally, shallow to moderate fog may occur in select districts including Ganjam, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Gajapati until 8:30 am on Thursday.

Rain Forecast:

  • February 10: Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in isolated areas of Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Nuapada.
  • February 11: Anticipate light to moderate rain or thundershowers in isolated areas of Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.
  • February 12: Similar conditions persist with light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely in isolated areas of Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Kandhamal, and Boudh districts.

Temperature Update: In the last 24 hours, night temperatures across most regions of the state were 3 to 6 degrees above normal. Balangir recorded the highest deviation at +6.6 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Bhawanipatna (+6.5), Bhubaneswar, and Titlagarh (+6), among others. Koraput was the coldest area at 10.6 degrees Celsius, experiencing a deviation of -4.1 degrees below normal.

Maximum Temperatures: During the previous day, temperatures soared above 33 degrees Celsius at thirteen locations across Odisha. Bhawanipatna and Paralakhemundi registered the highest maximum temperatures at 35.0 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Titilagarh and Malkangiri (34.5), and several other areas. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 23.5 and 22.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
