Panic gripped the residents of Jalamadei village, after a Royal Bengal Tiger from Sunabeda Sanctuary dragged an elderly woman from the backyard of her house in Odisha’s Nuapada district and mauled her to death on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Sanamati Barik.
According to reports, the matter came to the fore after the locals found his body in a pool of blood. Villagers suspect a tiger, which has been apparently moving in the area for the last few days.
The elderly woman was collecting timber from the backyard when the big cat came rushing and clawed her.
On being informed, Forest department officials and staff reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. As a result, villagers of Jalamadai and nearby habitations are in a state of fear since Sunday’s incident.
