It’s a proud moment for Odish, The newly-built Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Odisha’s Rourkela has entered the Guinness World Records as the largest hockey stadium in the world.
Expressing his happiness, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reaction to the feat.
“That indeed is thrilling news. I am truly delighted that the Guinness Book of Records had recognised the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela to be the biggest hockey stadium in the world. I congratulate the people of Odisha and the team that made this possible,” the CM said.
“I am amazed that it has been built in 15 months. It’s truly a great accomplishment for the people of Odisha,” he added.

In an Instagram post, Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, who played a major role in building of this beautiful stadium in Rourkela, informed that Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium has been certified by the Guinness Book.
However, putting aside all doubts and burying all controversies, International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Tayyab Ikram had confirmed that Birsa Munda Stadium is the largest stadium for hockey in the world in terms of seating capacity.
