Two women drown while bathing in village pond in Kandhamal
Phulbani, June 8: As many as two women met with watery grave while taking a bath in a pond in Lingagad village in G Udayagiri area of Kandhamal district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Suryakanti Pradhan and Kurumani Pradhan.
According to the information, the duo was taking a bath in the village pond. Suddenly Kurumani slipped into the deep water. Finding no other way, Suryakanti jumped into deep water to rescue her. As the duo did not know how to swim, they drowned in the pond.
The villagers saw the floating body of women and informed the Fire brigade team. On being informed, the Fire team reached the spot and fished out the bodies from the pond.
Soon, they were rushed to G Udayagiri Community Health Centre (CHC). However, they were declared brought dead. Later, their body was sent to for autopsy.
A pall of gloom has descended on the village following the incident.
