Relief from scorching heat likely in Odisha; thunderstorm expected in many parts
The heatwave that has caused schools in several areas of the state to either announce early holidays or adjust timetables is set to subside for the next few days.
Odisha heaved a sigh of relief from heatwave conditions on Saturday as the maximum temperature came down by a few degrees Celsius in most of the areas across the State.
The Met Department on Saturday has issued an Orange warning to several districts till Monday.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal,” said IMD.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and Koraput, said IMD.
The weather office has advised people to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
