‘Police Excesses:’ BJP files FIRs against DGP and other cops; BJD launches counter-attack with LPG price hike stir

Protesting against alleged police excesses on BJP Yuva Morcha members on February 28, the Odisha unit of the saffron party on Friday filed complaint against Director General of Police (DGP), Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) and Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at police stations across the state.

“The activists, who took out a rally in a peaceful and democratic way, were intentionally attacked to divert attention from Naba Das murder case. A complaint in this regard was earlier lodged at the Capital police station, but no FIR was filed in violation of Section 154 of the CrPC. The DGP, CP and Bhubaneswar DCP are responsible for the attack,” said BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan while heading towards Kharavela Nagar police station here with several party leaders and workers.

The government is trying to change the narrative by distracting media and people from Naba Das case, which is the main issue where a  policeman is being used as a sacrificial goat, said BJP state secretary Pinky Pradhan.

Reports of complaints being filed by party leaders in other districts are also tricking in.

Prithviraj Harichandan, BJP State General Secretary, said the activists have been arrested under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) despite the fact that the scuffle ensued after a police personnel was seen kicking a BJP Yuva Morcha member. “This is clearly an attempt by the state government to suppress our agitation against deteriorating law and order situation. If our complaints are not accepted at the police stations, we will move courts across the state,” he added.

The party is also planning to stage demonstrations in front of all Superintendents of Police (SPs) offices on Saturday.
