Bhubaneswar: Two day after logging COVID cases below 300, Odisha reported 329 new active Covid-19 cases from 7,309 samples tested in the last 24 hours. According to data shared by the state health department.
The state Health Department on Wednesday also reported the death of another Covid-19 patient taking the toll due to the infection to nine this year. The victim has been identified as a 48-year-old man from Sambalpur district, who had diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
On the other hand, the test positive rate (TPR) dropped to 4.5 per cent from 5.14 per cent on the previous day, which saw 291 fresh infections. It is worth noting that Odisha has been witnessing a decline in the Covid-19 graph since April 28 when 573 cases – the highest daily Covid-19 caseload this year – were detected.
Despite the declining TPR and cases, Odisha with 4,369 cases continues to be among top-three states fuelling the nation’s active tally. Kerala tops the list with 9,014 cases while Maharashtra is at the third spot with 3,351 cases.
Most of the active cases in Odisha are from Sundargarh, Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur and Nuapada districts.
Odisha has, so far, registered 9,072 cases in the current wave, which started on March 17. A total of 42 patients have been hospitalised and rest undergoing treatment in home isolation.
The health authorities said that the daily caseload will drop further by mid-May.
