Odisha Congress Leader Sura Routray Not To Contest Polls, announces son’s entry to politics
Veteran Congress leader and six-time Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray on Thursday announced that he will not contest the next election,saying he will not fight any poll battle in the future.
Addressing the media in Bhubaneswar, the senior Congress leader said his son Manmath Routray will now contest the elections from Jatani.
Stating that he has been working as a loyal Congress man for the last 55 years, 80-year-old Routray said his son will also contest as a Congress candidate.
“I will not contest elections anymore. Having worked in Congress for over 55 years, I am already 80 years. Now my youngest son Manmath will contest from Jatani on Congress ticket,” the senior leader said.
When asked about his meeting with CM Naveen Patnaik, the Congress leader said it was a courtesy meeting.
“My son Sidharth brought laurels to the State by scaling high-altitude peaks. I went to meet the CM to share my son’s success story. Both CM Naveen and 5T secretary were happy to learn about my son’s success,” Routray said.
“It was a courtesy meeting. No political discussions were made during my meeting with the Chief Minister,” he added.
It may be noted that Sidharth Routray scaled the highest peak in the world, Mt Everest last year.
