NHRC asked Keonjhar district Collector to submit ATR within four weeks

Kendrapada, Feb 9: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Keonjhar District Collector on the alleged deprivation of people of Mangarajpur village Under Anandpur Sub-Division of Keonjhar District of the benefits of various welfare schemes launched by Odisha and the Central government.

Acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Activist Radhakanta Tripathy, the Rights body on Wednesday directed the authority to submit the ATR within four weeks.

Tripathy in his petition alleged that more than 200 Poor, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes families in Mangarajpur village under Sadanga Panchayat, of Anantapur Sub Division, are deprived of houses provided under various schemes launched by both the state and Central governments and essential services like ambulance, Old age pension. proper electricity road connectivity, health and education facilities and other basic amenities.

According to Tripathy, the district is rich in minerals and pays hefty royalties to the government while possessing thousands of crores under the DMF fund.

Describing it as negligence and failure of the State government and violation of human rights Tripathy requested the NHRC to investigate the case in detail by a team of officials and direct the Chief Secretary, District Collector, Keonjhar and union Rural Development ministry to ensure that all benefits like houses under the PMAY, BKY, all-weather road, health care facilities and other, basic amenities are available to the poor villagers.
