Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Journalist Alaya Mohanty, a multi-faceted personality, associated with filmmaking and social work, passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday morning.
He was 65.
Family sources said he succumbed to a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment.
Mohanty’s art films “Sunya Swaroopa” and “Asha” made him popular in the Odia film industry bagging awards in both national and Odisha state film festivals.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Mohanty as a senior journalist had also established an identity for himself as a filmmaker and social worker helping the poor and sick people needing treatment in hospital.
Patnaik said Mohanty was a popular journalist in Bhubaneswar and also in Odisha who had worked for the problems of the journalist. His demise had created a void in the field of journalism in the state.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
Several artists, politicians and journalists paid their last tribute to the departed soul.
