A mild earthquake struck southern Koraput on Friday in the early hours. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the centre of the earthquake was located 5 kilometre below the ground.
However, no damage or loss of life has been reported.

According to a source, people of Narayanpatna and nearby areas like Laxmipur and Bandhugaon felt the jolt and panicked. People rushed out of their houses. People said they felt the tremors as well as could hear a roaring sound.
The tremor, which lay centered at a place 16 km of Koraput’s Laxmipur, was felt in Laxmipur and Narayanpatna area of the district and Kashipur area of Rayagada district. As shiver felt, people ran out of their houses for safety.
