Life Hit By 12-Hour bandh Over ‘Ghumsur’ District Status Demand in Bhanjanagar
Normal life was crippled at Bhanjanagar in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday as vehicular traffic remained off the road and business and academic establishments were closed in response to a 12-hour bandh in support of the local resident’s demand for district status to Ghumsur.
According to reports, the Ghumus Action Committee has called the bandh from 6 am to 6 pm. The streets and markets wore a deserted look but emergency services have been exempted from the bandh.
Shops, markets and financial institutions kept their shutters down, while schools and colleges were closed in Bhanjanagar as the bandh began at 6 am.
In many places, protestors were seen picketing on the main roads and important traffic crossings with posters, banners and placards in the town.
While hundreds of vehicles were halted on both sides of the national and state highways, services of buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws were also affected at several places in the town.
