Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s people centric welfare activities and development works propelled by the 5T Initiatives and Mo Sarkar have started bearing fruits and getting recognition from across. In the latest achievement, Odisha has been ranked at the third position in the country among the large states in terms of making its people and being the Happiest State. Odisha has made a huge jump from last year’s 16th position to 3rd position in this year’s survey by The Week.

While Himachal is the happiest place in the country, Maharashtra has bagged the second position, Odisha and Kerala third and fourth positions respectively. Uttar Pradesh has come last, at 20th place.

The latest issue of The Week contains the survey that ranks Odisha at the third spot in the country as the Happiest State. The magazine’s HappyPlus survey ranks the India states in various parameters to determine the Happiness Index. It has taken into account a number of parameters such as Freedom of Choice, Perception of Corruption, Prosperity Per Capita Net State Domestic product, Consumer Price Index, Literacy Rate, Healthy Life Expectancy At Birth, Multidimentional Poverty Index and Health Index.

The survey was carried out by HappyPlus Consulting recently and came out with India’s own happiness survey. The survey ranks Odisha at the third places among the bigger bigger states. While Himachal Pradesh ranks first, Maharashtra ranks at the second place. Kerala ranks at the forth place.

The survey took both micro and macro conditions together for a holistic picture of happiness and the data is also presented at state level. The study was carried out involving more than 14 thousand people across the state. Happiness is linked with positive emotions and clearly people of Mizoram, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar, Odisha, Lakshadweep and Nagaland had an edge over those living in the hinterland, the report said.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha has been making huge progress in all sectors be it economic, social, health or education. Propelled by the 5T Initiatives, the state is undergoing a transformative phase that has few parallels. Its people centric governance and welfare activities are the main reason to make the state one of the top happiest in the country.

Notably, India’s position in the World Happiness Report 2023 had improved from 136 to 126, although it is still behind its neighbouring countries such as Nepal, China, and Bangladesh.
