Ganja Bust in Odisha: 28 kg Seized, Smuggler Apprehended at Badadebata Chowk

Koraput: Padwa police in Odisha’s Koraput district successfully apprehended a suspected ganja (cannabis) smuggler and seized a substantial 28 kg of the contraband. The arrest took place at the bustling Badadebata Chowk, marking a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking.

The arrested individual has been identified as Dulhan Khan (24), hailing from Mondalpara under Katwa police limits in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district. The ganja was ingeniously packed in polythene sheets and securely wrapped around his body using tapes.

Nandapur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sanjaya Mohapatra shared insights into the operation, stating that Dulhan Khan confessed during interrogation. The accused revealed that he was waiting for a bus at Badadebata Chowk, intending to transport the contraband to the Araku area of Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, Khan planned to smuggle the ganja across the West Bengal border into Bangladesh.

The authorities not only seized the bulk of the illegal substance concealed on Khan’s body but also discovered additional ganja in his travel bag. The seized contraband has a street value and poses a significant blow to the illegal drug trade network operating in the region.

A case has been formally registered at the Padwa police station in connection with this illicit activity.
