Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: Opposition Congress and BJP members on Friday stalled the question hour business in the Odisha Assembly over the farmer’s suicide in the state.
As soon as the Assembly assembled for the day to take up the question hour, the Opposition Congress members trooped into the well of the house and started raising slogans on the suicide of farmers in the state.
Speaker B K Arukh however, tried to run the house and asked Industries minister Pratap Kumar Deb to reply to the question of Bhupender Singh (BJD).
The minister stood up to reply to the question but the congress members rushed to the podium and intensified their slogan shoutings.
Soon the BJP member also joined the Congress members in the well of the house and raised the farmers suicide, mismanagement in mandis and paddy procurements.
The Speaker requested the Opposition members to return to their seats and allow the question hours to run. He also appealed to them to discuss the issue in various other forums.
But an adamant opposition did not pay any heed to the Speaker’s request and continued their slogan shoutings inside the well of the house.
Unable to bring the house into order, the Speaker adjourned it from 1032 hours till 1130 hours.
