Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a person was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant at Balikiyari village in Dhenkanal district of Odisha.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshmidhar Sahu of Bali Kiari village. The deceased was attacked by an elephant in the early hours of morning when he went to the pond near his village to defecate.

Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on May 3, 2023, increased the compensation for deaths in man-animal conflicts to Rs 6 lakh. The earlier amount was Rs. 4 lakh.
Similarly, the amount of ex-gratia in case of permanent injury has been increased, in case of less than 60 percent disability, the amount of assistance shall be increased Rs 1.5 lakh.
