Retired IPS Amitabh Thakur announces to contest against Yogi in UP assembly polls

Lucknow : Former Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has announced to contest against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the upcoming assembly elections.

He said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has done many such anti people works during his tenure, and as a protest against which he will contest elections against him this time.

Mr Thakur in a video message through social media on Saturday said that from anywhere Yogi Adityanath will contest elections this time, he will definitely contest against him. He says that this is a battle of principles and will express his protest against the wrong in the election.

Government had forcibly retired Amitabh Thakur on March 23, 2021. In the order issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding his retirement, it was said that he was not fit to complete his services. Therefore, he is being retired in the public interest.

Earlier, Amitabh Thakur had demanded a change in the state cadre from the Center in 2017, which was turned down by the Center. Thakur was suspended on July 12, 2015 for accusing SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav of making threats calls to him. After this an inquiry committee was also formed against him. However, the Central Administrative Tribunal continued his suspension till April 2016.
