Chairman of M&M Keshub Mahindra no more

Mumbai, Apr 12: Keshub Mahindra, India’s most elderly billionaire and chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, passed away at the ripe age of 99 on Wednesday.

Mahindra’s net worth is estimated to be USD 1.2 billion.

During his 48 years as chairman, the Mahindra Group expanded from being automobile manufacturers to other business segments such as IT, real estate and financial services.

Keshub Mahindra was a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

After joining the company in 1947, he became its chairman in 1963.

He was instrumental in securing commercial contracts with major companies such as Willys Corporation, Mitsubishi, International Harvester, United Technologies, British Telecom and many others.

According to Mahindra’s website, Keshub Mahindra was appointed to serve on several committees, including the Central Industry Advisory Council. From 2004 to 2010, he was a member of the Prime Minister’s Council of Trade and Industry, New Delhi.

He has also served on the boards and councils of various companies including SAIL, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, IFC and ICICI.

Recently, Keshub Mahindra was included in the 2023 list by Forbes magazine. Forbes said that he is the oldest Indian billionaire.
