Bhubaneswar: The Padma awards this year comprises of 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shri. Four individuals from Odisha, Maguni Charan Kuanr, Antaryami Mishra, Krishna Patal, and Patayat Sahu, will be honored with Padma Shri awards this year.
Kuanr, a renowned artist and puppeteer, comes from a family of traditional puppeteers and was trained in the art of Kandhei Nach by his father. Mishra is a well-known litterateur. The other two recipients, Patal and Sahu, are an artist and agriculturist respectively.
The Padma awards are among the highest civilian awards in India and are given in various fields such as art, social work, science, literature, and sports. They are usually conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in March or April each year.
