2 Killed, 7 Critical After Poclain Crashes Into SUV At Coal Mine In Odisha
In a tragic incident, two persons died while seven others were critically injured when a poclain vehicle crashed into an SUV in which they were travelling, at Garjanbahal coal mine under Hemgiri police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, today.
According to reports, the accident occurred while the employees were changing shifts when the porcelain machine that was stationed atop a coal pile suddenly came crashing down and mounted itself on the SUV parked below. Subsequently, seven persons of whom two died on the spot, while four others sustained critical injuries.
The poclain dashed into the SUV killing the two men on the spot and injuring others grievously. The SUV was completely mangled under the impact of the collision.
The injured were rushed to Jindal Hospital at Raigarh in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, sources said, adding that their condition is stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, tension ran high at the mine with workers staging a protest demanding compensation the bereaved families and those injured in the accident. They withdrew the agitation later after a discussion with MCL General Manager.
