Watch: Japanese PM Fumio Kishida Tastes Gol Gappe, Lassi At Delhi’s Buddha Jayanti Park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida paid a visit to the Bal Bodhi Tree in Delhi’s Buddha Jayanti Park on Monday. Earlier today, talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart were held.

A video shared by news agency ANI, showed the two leaders talking while enjoying lassi, which PM Modi and Kishida even tried hands at churning as the caterers seemed to explain the recipe behind famous drink. Later, they are also seen trying ‘aam-panna’ – the cooling summer drink, popular across the country as well as the Japan PM can be seen eating ‘gol-gappe’ – the common Indian street food known by many names.

The News Agency took to Twitter and shared the video while captioned it as, “Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida visit Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. The Japanese PM also tried Gol Gappe, Lassi and Aam Panna here.”

The prime minister stated that the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is built on democratic principles and respect for international law and that it is important for the Indo-Pacific area.

During his March visit to India, Kishida set a five trillion yen (Rs 3,20,000 crore) investment target in India over the following five years.

In 2000, India-Japan relations were upgraded to ‘Global Partnership,’ then to ‘Strategic and Global Partnership,’ and finally to ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership,’ in 2014.
