Odisha Govt May Reconsider Re-opening of Classes from 1-5, Parents Breathe A Sigh Of Relief

Bhubaneswar: Amid Omicron gradually spreading it’s tentacles, Odisha Government may reconsider its decision of resuming physical teaching for the students of Class I to 5 keeping an eye upon the prevailing Covid-19 situation, Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET) Dr Rama Raman Mohanty informed. Mohanty clarified that the Government had decided to resume physical teaching before the rise in Covid cases but now Omicron has been spreading gradually in other States. Keeping this in view the State Government may take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time.

He informed that there has been a 44% surge in Covid cases at the national level. While 6,358 cases had been reported yesterday, 9,195 cases were reported today.

Stating that not only Omicron but Delta variant may also be responsible for the surge, Mohanty asked people to be alert and informed that the Health Department is holding regular meetings and discussions are being held over what precautions should be taken.

He urged people to not visit crowded places and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour to keep a check on Covid cases.

School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash had on Tuesday informed that the State Government is going to resume classroom teaching for students of Class I to V in about 27,000 schools from January 3, while in the other schools it will start from January 10.
