Breaking: Rahul Gandhi convicted by Surat court for his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi convicted by Surat District Court on Thursday in connection with a 2019 criminal defamation case filed against him over his “Modi surname” remarks.
BJP MLA and Purnesh Modi had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” remarks.
Rahul Gandhi at a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar wondered how come “all thieves have Modi as the common surname”. Rahul Gandhi was present at the court when the verdict was announced.

Rahul Gandhi is in Gujarat after his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Congress MP was in Gujarat in December 2022 while campaigning for the Assembly elections.
The complaint against Rahul Gandhi was filed by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi who alleged that the Congress leader defamed the entire Modi community by his surname remarks.
