Lata Mangeshkar’s Passing Mourned In South Asia And Beyond

New Delhi, Feb 6 : The passing away of the Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar was on Sunday mourned across the borders, with leaders from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal paying tribute to the legend. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet said that with the death of Lata Mangeshkar the subcontinent has lost one of the truly great singers the world has known. “With the death of Lata Mangeshkar the subcontinent has lost one of the truly great singers the world has known. Listening to her songs has given so much pleasure to so many people all over the world.”

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a message in Bangla said that Lata Mangeshkar’s demise has created a “great void in the subcontinent’s musical arena”. Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari, in a tweet in Nepalese language, offered condolences on the death of Lata Mangeshkar. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his condolence tweet, said India’s Queen of Music touched billions of hearts through her golden and unparalleled voice, and her memory will remain in our midst for centuries through her melodious voice.

This is truly the end of an era”. “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar ji. She was the voice of the country ever since I can remember. This is truly the end of an era.” Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai in a tweet condoled the Nightingale’s death, saying with her voice Lata Mangeshkar filled millions of hearts with joy and her melodies are universal and forever. “With her voice #LataMangeshkar filled millions of hearts with joy. My profound condolence to her family and the people of #India. May the nightingale of #India Rest In Peace.” Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry condoled the veteran singer’s death, and even Leader of Opposition and PML-N Leader Shehbaz Sharif paid tributes. Chaudhry in a tweet said Lata’s voice will keep ruling the hearts of people for all times to come.

The people of my generation grew up listening to her beautiful songs that will remain part of our memory. May she rest in peace!” Australian Ambassador in India Barry O’Farrell in a tweet said Lata’s melodies will live on.

Farid Mamundzay, the Afghan Ambassador in India, also voiced grief at the passing of Lata Mangeshkar. Emmanuel Lenain, the French Ambassador to India, said he was deeply saddened by her death. “Deeply saddened by the demise of Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar. An institution in herself, she was conferred Officier de la Legion d’Honneur’ of France in recognition of her incomparable singing career. Our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and fans across the world.” The Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a tweet said Lata will continue to live in the hears of the people of India and also in those in the subcontinent and world for her unparalleled contribution to music. “Deepest condolences on demise of Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, who will continue to live in the hearts of the people of India and also those in the subcontinent and world for her unparalleled contribution to music.

May her memory be a blessing. ॐ शांतिÓ.” Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysian leader, expressed his sorrow at the death of Lata Mangeshkar. “My immense sorrow over the news of the passing of Lata Mangeshkar earlier today is only matched by the awe I feel over seeing what one woman can accomplish in 92 years on this planet.” Daren Ganga, former Trinidadian cricketer, in a tweet said that he grew up in the Caribbean listening to Lata’s timeless music. “RIP Lata Mangeshkar, I grew up in the Caribbean listening to your timeless music…your music shall live on!!!”
