All you need to know about the new Amrit Bharat Express
Uttar Pradesh: In a significant stride towards modernizing India’s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off the inaugural run of the first two Amrit Bharat Express trains on December 30, starting from the historic temple town of Ayodhya. Representing a leap forward in passenger comfort, these trains are equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure a smooth and jerk-free travel experience.
Railway officials have emphasized that the Amrit Bharat Express incorporates the latest innovations to eliminate any discomfort typically associated with train travel. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who recently inspected the train at the New Delhi railway station, highlighted the use of a special type of coupler known as a semi-permanent coupler, designed to negate the jerking effect during the journey.

Key Features of Amrit Bharat Express:
1. Jerk-Free Technology:
- The trains will operate between Darbhanga in Bihar and Anand Vihar in Delhi via Ayodhya, as well as between Malda Town in West Bengal and Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminus in Bengaluru.
- The semi-permanent coupler technology ensures a smooth journey, allowing the trains to run at a maximum speed of 130 km without causing discomfort to passengers.
2. Affordable Ticketing:
- The minimum ticket price for travel on Amrit Bharat Express for distances within one km to 50 km is ₹35, excluding reservation fees and other charges.
- Despite being marginally higher in fare (15 to 17 percent) compared to other existing mail or express trains, the advanced features promise a more comfortable travel experience.
3. Ticketing Guidelines:
- Concessional tickets and those against free complimentary passes not reimbursed will not be applicable for these trains.
- The eligibility criteria for Privilege Passes, PTOs (privilege ticket order), and Duty Passes for railway employees align with those for mail/express trains.
4. Technological Advancements:
- Amrit Bharat trains feature LHB coach-based push-pull arrangements, providing horizontal sliding windows, dust-sealed wider gangways, and an aerosol-based fire suppression system in toilets and electrical cubicles.
- Specialized features include an emergency disaster management light, floor guide fluorescent strips, bench-type design for LWS coaches, and segregation of reserved and unreserved coaches with sliding doors.
The introduction of Amrit Bharat Express reflects a commitment to enhancing the travel experience for passengers and introducing innovative solutions to address common challenges associated with train journeys. As these modern trains embark on their inaugural journeys, they signal a promising era for Indian rail travel, combining technological advancements with an emphasis on passenger comfort.
