Bihar: 12 die in hooch tragedy in East Champaran
Motihari, Apr 15: Altogether 12 people died under mysterious circumstances, suspected to be a case of hooch tragedy, in villages of various police stations areas including Turkaulia and Paharpur in East Champaran district of Bihar during the last 24 hours.
Sources said 12 people died under mysterious circumstances in Laxmipur, Mushar Toli and other villages of various police stations areas including Paharpur and Turkaulia police stations. All deaths appeared to be related to hooch tragedy, sources added. Several others were being treated with complaints of vomitting and uneasiness in government and private hospitals, sources further added.
Bihar Police headquarters, however confirmed only four deaths so far in the incident. It was suspected that victims died after consuming spurious liquor, police added.
Police headquarters said the incident would be inquired into a by team of excise department and CID. A team of FSL had also been sent from Patna to ascertain real reason behind the casualties, police added.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate of East Champaran Saurabh Jorwal said a team led by Excise Superintendent had been sent to investigate the case. Senior officials of district administration had also reached the spot, he added. Seven people were detained in this connection, he stated.
