390 gms gold, electronic goods worth Rs 22.31 lakh seized at airport, one arrested

Chennai : Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU)
seized 390 gms of gold and electronic goods totally valued at Rs 22.31 lakh
from a passenger, who arrived from Sharjah and arrested him at the Anna
international airport here today.
A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs said acting on
intelligence, a 53-year-old passenger, who arrived from Sharjah by an Air
Arabia flight, was intercepted at the exit by the AIU officers.
On personal search and examination of the passenger one gold chain weighing
80 gms, concealed in his pant pocket and one gold bundle concealed in rectum
weighing 310 gms valued at Rs 16,30,590 was recovered.
Further electronic goods worth Rs 6,00,200 not declared by the passenger carried
in his check-in baggage was also recovered.
The total value of the contraband goods is Rs.22.31 lakhs and the same were
seized under the Customs Act, 1962 and the passenger was arrested.
Further investigations is in progress.
