The row between the protesting wrestlers and the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, now seems boiling down to a political opprorium which has gone ignored by the national leaders and the BJP in particular.
Why Singh does not resign
In particular the BJP because Singh holds a tag of the BJP and after so much hullabaloo and FIRs, why has not he resigned from the post of the WFI rather than keep ranting the statements in his own defense like he is ready to be punished or will to hang himself.
It is all about a bunch of players from any hue but all most reputed wrestlers of the country including the famous lot of women wrestlers of international fame and glory.
Brij Bhushan’s denial is ok but his continuation in the post despite so much of angst at Jantar Mantar is surely shocking.
What makes him to continue and as regards the sports ministry when it said that, the problems of the wrestlers have been met post an order for probe, why the ministry shies away from asking the WFI chief to step down to allow the probe.
Now the issue gains huge momentum after several Samyukt Kissan Morcha(SKM) has come out openly to support the wrestlers by staging ‘dharnas’ and all other pressure tactics available under the law.
They are coming to Jantar Mantar to join the agitation to demand Singh’s resignation and arrest soon as possible.
It may be mentioned here that, Brij Bhushan is BJP MP who has been alleged of sexual harassment with the women wrestlers by Singh himself.
In addition several farmers’ unions have taken the pledge to openly support the demand of the wrestlers and punishment for Brij Bhushan.
If the Union Sports ministry feels that the issues are being addressed and a probe to be conducted then why is Brij Bhushan stays put in his post in WFI. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
So sensitive has become the issue that, the security has been beefed up at the Jantar Mantrat site.
Already two FIRs have been registered against Singh by the Delhi Police. One of them has been filed under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 354A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), Section 354D (stalking), and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Six women wrestlers, including a minor, had alleged that Singh had sexually harassed them so, yet another FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
