Argentina Beat Chile 4-2 In Pan Am Women Cup Final

Santiago, Jan 30 : Formidable Argentina annexed Women’s Pan Am Cup 2022 as they defeated spirited hosts Chile by 4-2 in the final here today. Earlier, in the third/fourth place encounter Canada eked out a narrow 1-0 verdict against USA. Canada also joined Argentina and Chile in qualifying for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup, Spain and Netherlands 2022. Argentina made their intentions clear by taking the lead in the 15th minute as Maria Granatto converted a penalty. They maintained the lead till the 34th minute. Hosts Chile forced a penalty corner and Denise Losada Krimerman made no mistake to restore parity 1-1. Both teams matched each other.
Two field goals, one by each team, were registered. Argentina again forged ahead in the 39th minute as Agustina Albertarrio got the better of the Chile defence to score a field goal. Chile retaliated in the 48th and Denise Losada Krimerman again neutralised Argentina’s lead by hitting the target in the 48th minute. Argentina exerted more pressure and forced two penalty corners within a span of four minutes. Augusstina Gorzelany converted a PC in the 53rd minute to give Argentina 3-2 lead.
It was consolidated by Maria Grantoo further strengthened Argentina’s chances to win the trophy by converting a penalty corner in the 57th minute. Sofia Toccalino (11th minute) and Valentina Costa (23rd) got green cards while yellow card was shown to Jumena Cedres in the 51st minute. Chile’s Fernanda Villagran got a green card in the 53rd minute. Amana crafted win for Canada Amanda Woodcraft snatched the match winner for Canada by converting a penalty corner against USA in the 15th minute of the game. They were able to retain the 1-0 slender lead till the end of the match. USA captain Amanda Magadana and Zimmer Madeleine received yellow cards in the 56th an 51st minutes, respectively. Ashley Sessa of the USA got a green card in the 35th minute. Canadians Sara McManus got a yellow card in the 59th minute while Madeline Secco was penalised with a green card in the 48th minute. It may be recalled that the USA had beaten Canada by 3-1 in their Pool B league outing. With the third ranking in the tournament, Canada qualified for the FIH World Cup Spain and Netherlands.
Final standings: 1 Argentina, 2 Chile, 3 Canada, 4 USA, 5 Uruguay, 6 Trinidad and Tobago and 7 Peru. Meanwhile, Erin Matson of USA emerged the top scorer with 10 goals, including one penalty stroke and one penalty corner. Brienne Stairs of Canada was the second highest scorer, She scored four four field goals and three penalty corners. In all 108 goals were scored in the Pan Am Women’s Cup.
