Telangana Cong celebrates Sonia’s birthday; CM cut 78-kg cake at Gandhi Bhavan
Hyderabad, Dec 9 : Telangana Congress leaders and cadre celebrated the 77th birthday of Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in a grand manner at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday.
Chief Minister and PCC President Revanth Reddy, who visited the party office for the first time after taking oath as CM, cut the 78-kg cake along with senior leader and former PCC President V Hanumanth Rao on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth said that the announcement of a separate Telangana state was made on Sonia’s birthday on December 9, 2009.
He said that the former AICC President had given Telangana as per her promise.
The Chief Minister said the Congress came to power in the state with the sacrifices of the congress workers and their blessings.
Later, the 54-year-old Revanth attended the assembly for the first time after taking oath as Chief Minister.
Hanumantha Rao said that two of the 6 guarantees announced by the party would start from today on Sonia’s birthday.
The celebrations were held under the leadership of Mahila Congress state president Sunita Rao.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers, party leaders and activists among others participated in the event.
