Some Western countries interested in Turkey’s peace plan for Israel-Palestine conflict

Ankara, Oct 23 : Some countries, including those in the West, have shown interest in Turkey’s peace plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on providing international guarantees to both sides, a diplomatic source in Ankara told Sputnik.
Announcing the initiative last week, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan suggested third countries, including Turkey, could volunteer to become guarantors of peace for Israel and Palestine. No country has so far commented on Turkey’s proposal.
“We see the interest of a number of both regional and Western countries in the formula proposed by Turkey. In particular, minister [Fidan], in his speech at the summit in Cairo, also explained to the participants the essence of this proposal. No details or concrete statements are available yet, however,” the source said.
The source declined to name the countries that have expressed interest in the proposal, due to the lack of public statements on their part.
Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on Monday that Ankara’s formula would preserve the territory of Palestine and prevent fatalities, while arguing that the plan allegedly pursued by the US and Israel for a Gaza Strip without Palestinians was bound to fail due to its bias.
On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people killed and injured on both sides.
