Shiv Sena chief criticises PM Modi, questions relevance of US visit when Manipur boils

Mumbai, Jun 18 (UNI) Former Maharashtra chief minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) president, Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his scheduled visit to the United States, questioning the purpose of his visit instead of addressing the crisis in violence-stricken Manipur.

The north-eastern state is currently engulfed in ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

While addressing the partymen at a state-level convention held in Worli area of the city on eve of the party’s 57th foundation day, he expressed his concerns over the escalating violence in Manipur, leading to the tragic loss of over 100 lives.

The Shiv Sena chief asked the BJP led central government to resolve the ongoing unrest in Manipur on priority and challenged them to implement the Uniform Civil Code across the nation.

Thackeray called for unity among Opposition parties, inviting them to come together and challenge the ruling BJP.

The convention served as a platform for the Shiv Sena chief to reinforce his party’s stance and rally support from party members.

He urged Shiv Sena (UBT) workers to defeat the rebels within the party at all levels, while emphasising the need for a united front.
