New Delhi, Aug 04 : Congress on Friday hailed the Supreme court decision for staying the conviction order of Gujarat High Court against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case.
The Indian National Congress later expressed its delight on Twitter.
“Satyamev Jayate,” it posted on the social media platform.
On Friday, the Supreme Court put a stay on Gujarat High Court order convicting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case for making the ‘Modi surname’ remark.
Following the SC order, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra thanked the Apex Court and quoted Gautam Budhha in a tweet that “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth” expressing her delight in the SC orders.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gahlot also welcomed the judgment and tweeted, “The decision of the Supreme Court to stay the sentence in the defamation case against Shri Rahul Gandhi is welcome…This is the victory of truth and justice”.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also expressed his delight at the judgement and said, “The Supreme Court judgment is a strong vindication of truth and justice”.
“Let this be a lesson to the BJP and its acolytes: you can do your absolute worst but we will not back down. We will continue to expose and call out your failures as a Government and as a party,” he tweeted.
“The judgement of the Supreme Court has once again re-established the faith of common people in SC, in democracy, constitutionalism and in the principle that truth shall prevail,” Congress MP Randeep Surjewala said.
Congress MP and leader of opposition in Lok sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “You will see ‘Satyamev Jayate’ everywhere on Parliament premises. The conspiracy against Rahul Gandhi has failed today.”
Meanwhile, the celebration erupted at the AICC with hundreds of party supporters gathered with holding party flags and placards.
On March 23, a Surat court convicted Rahul Gandhi and sentenced him for two years.
A day later, he was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP.
He represented the Wayanad seat in Kerala.
