We in India can indulge in statue splurge of several thousand crores of rupees , let public money be blown in hideous political jamborees but cannot boost the essential health sector in town or cities.
It was a shocking account of a woman, dead, as the body had to lie in a hospital in Kendrapada district of Odisha before being sent for autopsy and funeral rites.
Thanks to the careless attitude of police, the body of a dead woman stayed put in a mor-tuary for three days without autopsy. Taking a serious note of the unfortunate incident, the Additional Tehsildar of
Rajnagar rushed to the Rajnagar CHC and made all the arrangements for post
mortem of the body.
After 72 hours!
The ill-fated dead woman’s funeral was organised after long 72 hrs. Subashini (23), wife of Rajesh Maiti of Amarabati village under the Talachua Marine police station, on Thursday was rushed to Rajnagar
CHC for treatment in a critical condition, but she later died that night. Neither the in-laws nor parents of the deceased were present near the body. The hospital later in-formed matter to the police.
On Saturday when the matter came to the notice of Additional Tehsildar of Rajnagar Dalimani Tudu, she rushed to the spot and directed the Marine police to send the body for autopsy as by that time the body had decomposed and bad odour was coming out from the mortuary room. IIC, Talachua Marine police station, Anamcharan Nayak, said neither the in-laws nor the parents of the deceased co-operated with the police.
Police cannot do autopsy on its own as the presence of a magistrate was required, he added.
