With just a passing reference to the Manipur inferno the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech nearly remained a politician as many.

But, at such occasions the PM’s usually redeem the chances to recount the government’s achievements and the dreams for the future.

It was although his usual style that he maintains in election as well with appeals for the votes.

Appeal for 3rd term

But speaking from the Red Fort rampant, the issues should not dwell in conditional gestures like asking for another term and to make India transform itself to ‘gold’.

Independence day is an occasion which transcends detail politics of brick-bats. But the speech today somehow looked metaphoric for votes and exuded the feel of a campaign where the PM made repeat appeals for a third term.

“Modi seeks mandate for another term, promises ‘golden moment’ for India”.  With an eye on the coming general election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on Tuesday presented his report card for the last 10 years and made a strong pitch for helming the country again promising a ‘golden moment’ for India in the next five years.

Nor was it befitting in a speech to go to use sobriquets for the political rivals bracketing them for
‘corruption, nepotism and appeasement’.

“The next five years are for unprecedented development. The biggest golden moment to realise the dream of 2047 is the coming five years,” the PM said.

Noting that India has become the fifth largest economy in the world, leapfrogging from the 10th spot in 2014, Modi promised to make it the third largest globally in the next five years.

“In the coming five years, India will be in the top three economies. This is Modi’s guarantee,” the Prime Minister said during his 10th Independence Day speech.

The Prime Minister in his usual self going for rhyme slogans like ‘reform, perform and transform’ are changing India.
