As exclusuvely reported earlier in the Mobilenews24x7.com regarding the heartrending physical and sexual abuse of two women from Manipur, paraded naked and gang raped by the rival group(Meitei), although the political community remained shockingly silent over the video viral of the above incident, at last the apex court has taken cognizance of the gruesome act.

Days and months long cry for peace in this state have fallen on deaf ears and the Centre or the PM in particular has not uttered a word on the burning crisis lasting over three months or more, over 120 lives lost in the carnage, the Prime Minister of India somehow skipped on the issue for reasons best known to him.

Not that, such issues are to be brought to the Centre’s attention through some pictures but the goings in this hilly region is on fire yet failed to stir the conscience of the BJP dispensation. which just ignored it pathetically.

However, at  last respite seems in the offing as Supreme Court on Thursday took suo moto cognizance of the disturbing viral videos of two young tribal women being paraded naked by a mob in Manipur and sought an action taken report from the Centre and state governments by July 28.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and Manoj Misra, told the Solicitor General of India that the apex court will be constrained to “step in” if the government does not take action.

“We will give a little time to the government to act otherwise we will take action,” the bench said.

The apex court asked the Centre and the state government to apprise it about the steps taken by July 28.

The court said that it is “deeply disturbed” by the incident which it termed as a “gross constitutional violation”.

Videos of the incident that occurred on May 4, a day after the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur, went viral on Wednesday.

According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) , the two women were also gang raped in a paddy field after being paraded naked while being groped by a mob.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the incident and termed it as shameful for the 140 crore people of the country.

Talking to media persons ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, he said: “Today, my heart is filled with pain and anger. The incident of Manipur which has surfaced, for any civilised society, this is a very shameful incident.

“This incident is an insult for the entire nation as it has shamed 140 crore countrymen. The incident which happened with the women in Manipur can never be forgiven. I assure the countrymen that no one will be spared.”
