Is is a crime to be a transgender man or woman? The question puzzles us all if we listen to the ordeal of one transgender woman(TG) from Andhra Pradesh facing a humiliation just for her identity through the look.
She had come to Delhi to pursue a career in photography with a diploma. Ayesha(name changed) is wide eyed and had wide eyed dreams being in Delhi. Her worry worsens any time she takes to the Metro and like in many occasions earlier, till date she gets nudged from her designated line by the security.
It is normal once she produces her identity card.
Sometimes, the mistaken identity transpires to a fierce scream at her for taking women checking booth. It goes on till she explains that she is a woman and has an ID card too. Then allowed to be at the booth.
But till date she had many such encounters but without an word of sorry for the officers for their mistaken identity.
That naturally develops within any one like Ayesha an inferiority complex, a sense of isolation and rejection as well.
Filthy stares, uncivil  gaze and even being mocked at what they get from the multitude. One obviously gets tired of such routines those add to the problems. Even they are asked to step out of a compartment for ladies and enter the general yet, no end to the ordeals.

But I am tired of explaining myself. I am tired of proving to everyone why I should be where I belong. I am tired of wondering what will happen every time I step out.
She came to Delhi with immense confidence to study… but this has made me question myself.
I explained to the officials at the Sashtri Nagar CISF office that I was there to simply speak about:
Discrimination at security checks in metro stations.
Request for a separate security check for trans persons and those who identify as non-binary and gender non-conforming.
But they immediately asked me to leave the premises.
