Inseparable: India and Bharat are like twins, no scope for debate: Salman Khurshid

Farrukhabad (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 7 : Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid on Thursday said that India and Bharat are like twins and in such a situation there is no scope for debate on India.

Speaking to Journalists before taking part in the Padyatra organised on the first anniversary of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Khurshid said, “In our country people are always called ‘Bharatwasi’ and not ‘Indiawasi’ and in such a situation sometimes we use India and sometimes Bharat, like Digital India, and Reserve Bank of India.”

He said, “In our Hindi Constitution the word Bharat comes first whereas in the English Constitution the word India comes first.

In our Constitution, India and Bharat have been seen together, on which no one has any objection. In the country we are called Bharatwasi, whereas in the United Nations, we are known as India, so Bharat and India are like twins. In such a situation there is no scope for debate on India.”

In response to a question, the former Union Minister said that with the strong resolve of Bharat Jodo Yatra, a number of opposition parties after forgetting their differences have given the name India with a new sense.

The Senior Congress leader said that the Indian Constitution is our soul which has to be protected. “It is not a matter of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and those who do not believe in god but those who respect our Constitution,” he said.
