Lord John Henry Temple in mid 19th century and his that take on politics still remains one of the most sought after bed-rocks of political togetherness when it is the matter of permanent interests for power.

What can best manifest itself than what has transpired in Delhi and Punjab where the AAP and BJP stand in stark contrast as long it serves the mutual goals.

For reference, let’s look at two key political events which shook Delhi and Punjab over the last month.

Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s deputy Chief Minister and one of Arvind Kejriwal’s closest aides, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy scam.

As Sisodia about to complete one month in prison, the AAP has maintained that his arrest is part of a witch hunt by the BJP, executed with the help of the central agencies.

In Punjab this month the Punjab police started a search for Amritpal Singh, now heading Waris Punjab De, who had initiated the outfit, was floated by the deceased Deep Sidhu, subsequently taken over by Singh now haunted by Punjab police but with the active support of the Central probe agencies.

With several reports suggesting that the Union Minister of Home Affairs and the National Security Advisor were in the loop regarding the entire operation on Singh.

Was it the ground that the AAP looks for in Punjab for which it depends on the BJP in a way. Secondly, the important power equations before the 2024 where Arvind Kejriwal has an ambition for national expansion.

In fact, even after AAP won the elections with an overwhelming majority, the BJP continued targeting the Bhagwant Mann-led government of being incapable of handling the security situation.

The AAP government’s decision to revoke the security cover of at least 400 individuals, publishing their names on social media, and the death of singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala also didn’t help Mann’s cause.

Now, coming back to the current issue of Amritpal Singh, the BJP  raising questions on the party’s ability to handle the law and order situation in the state. This, especially after Singh’s supporters attacked the Ajnala police station in Amritsar on 24 February, demanding the release of an associate who had been detained in connection with a case of kidnapping and attempt to murder.

“The Bhagwant Mann government bowed down in the Ajnala incident. It is not the Punjab Police which has failed. It was not the police which bowed down, BJP’ Sunil Jakhar, was quoted to have said who was one of the many BJP leaders who accused the AAP of miserably failing to maintain the law and order situation in the state”. said Sandeep Sharma, Amritsar based journalist told Mobilenews24x7.

Friend in need

Obviously, Mann’s meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on 2 March and the state government’s subsequent crackdown on Singh and his supporters — at a huge political tight-rope walk implies that the party leadership understands that it is impossible to run a state such as Punjab without Centre’s cooperation.

It reminisces the days when Capt Amrinder Singh despite being in the Congress has a tacit working relation with the Centre.

Punjab has many problems right from agro loans to border issues so the AAP cannot afford to be so frontal at this juncture
