PM Modi’s Odisha Visit: Foundation Stones Laid for ₹79,000 Crore Worth of Development Projects in Two-Day Blitz

Bhubaneswar: In a move towards catalyzing development and infrastructure growth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹79,000 crore during his two-day visit to Odisha and Assam on February 3 and 4, 2024. The ambitious initiative aims to kickstart a range of development projects, with Odisha witnessing investments exceeding ₹68,000 crore and Assam hosting projects valued at over ₹11,000 crore.

Commencing his visit in Odisha on February 3, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Dhamra – Angul Pipeline Section, a key component of the Jagdishpur-Haldia & Bokaro-Dhamra Pipeline Project, constructed at a cost of more than ₹2,450 crore. This strategic initiative is designed to integrate Odisha into the National Gas Grid. Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Nagpur Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline, a project with an estimated investment of over ₹2,660 crore, aimed at enhancing natural gas accessibility across multiple states.

The power sector in Odisha is poised for a significant uplift with the inauguration of projects such as the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station and the NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project. The agenda also includes the inauguration of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s Talabira Thermal power project, reflecting a substantial investment of more than ₹27,000 crore and underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening energy security and supporting economic growth.

The Prime Minister’s visit will spotlight developments in coal and railway infrastructure, including the inauguration of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited’s First Mile Connectivity projects and the Ib Valley Washery. Furthermore, he will lay the foundation for pivotal railway projects, such as the redevelopment of Sambalpur Railway Station and the expansion of rail network capacity in the region.

This comprehensive infrastructure drive across Odisha and Assam underscores the government’s dedication to fostering connectivity, ensuring energy security, and enhancing public amenities. The multi-billion rupee investment signals a robust commitment to propelling economic development and elevating the overall quality of life for citizens in the region.
