Bhubaneswar, Nov 16 : Ensuring transparency in administration and morality in society is the prime duty of the media, Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik said here on Thursday.
Addressing a function organised by the National Journalist Welfare Board, Bhubaneswar to celebrate National Press Day. Mallik said the role of the Press Council of India is very important in regulating the media.
National Press Day is observed on November 16 every year in India to celebrate the importance of free and responsible press in a democratic society. The day is also celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India. Acts as a regulatory body for the news media in the country.
Mallik said the objective of celebrating the day is to sensitise people about the independence and responsibility of the media and the rights of the people.
Speaking at a seminar on Media in the era of Artificial intelligence (AI) Information and Public Relations Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh said in the changing time AI stands as a big challenge in the field of journalism.
But instead of depending upon technology we should use technology along with the traditional system, he said.
The meeting held under the Chairmanship of NJWB President Pradosh Patnaik felicitated toppers of various Journalism colleges and distributed pensions to many senior journalists on this occasion.
NJWB Charman Deepak Malviya, working president Sriram Dash, Vice President Pradyumna Kumar Mohanty and General Secretary Santa Mishra also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking in another function organised by the State Information and Public Relations department to celebrate National Press Day, state I & PR Minister Pradip Kumar Amat said a days AI is being used in every walk of life. By using AI more work could be done in a minimum of time. But the media should carefully use the AI, he said.
The Minister said the government has always given importance to media, the fourth pillar of democracy.
