The advisory issued by the Information & Broadcasting ministry was a right check point for the media (including social media) who gave space to fictitious stuff to create an outrage. It is more obtrusive and often inglorious if related to politics of rivalry.
In the social media a photo went viral showing the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is doing Bharat Jodo Yatra, taking a break somewhere in Punjab, which showed he was taking dry-fruits and a glass of tea at a ‘dhaba’.
In another picture of his it showed that, Rahul Gandhi’s menu of food was dry fruits with chicken in a plate and like a glass of wine.
It was obvious that the second picture with chicken in a plate and a glass with like wine went viral as many took a dig at the Congress leader for his inclination for non-veg and alcohol like liquid.
This was subsequently found that the earlier picture in which Rahul was seen eating dry fruits and tea, was digitally altered and instead shown with chicken and alcohol like liquid in a glass.
It was also found that, senior journalist and political commentator, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, who in a coincidence met Rahul in Punjab, in fact, had posted the picture when Rahul having fruits and tea or milk .
“It was sheer coincidence: travelling to Punjab this morning, I crossed the Bharat Jodo Yatra. With some difficulty and a scuffle, I was able to meet Rahul Gandhi while he was eating at a dhaba a few kms from Karnal.”
Thakurta had tweeted.
However, comparison of the two photographs revealed that, it has been edited and added with a glass of alcohol and digitally altered.
