Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 : As many as 25,934 people were killed and 51,873 injured in 54,790 road accidents in Odisha during the last five years, Transport Minister Tukuni told the state Assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a question of Kusum Tete (BJP), the Minister in a written reply said 5467 people, the highest in the last five years, died in road accidents in 2022 followed by 5333 in 2019.
While 5315 died in 2018, as many as 5081 died in 2021 and 4738 people died in 2020.
Similarly 11794 people were injured in road accidents in 2018, and 11177 in 2019. While 10302 were injured in 2022, as many as 9782 were injured in 2021 and 8818 in 2020.
The year 2022 witnessed the highest number of 11663 road accidents followed by 11064 (2019), 10984 (2021) and 9817 in 2020.
The government , the Minister said, is providing a sum of Rs two lakh to the kins of deceased and Rs 50,000 to seriously injured persons in road accidents.
