Again septic tank casualty: NHRC seeks ATR from Khordha DM and SP on death of two workers in asphyxia
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 : The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) has called for an action taken report from the Khordha Collector and Superintendent of Police on the death of two workers inside a septic tank.
Both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police have been asked to submit the action taken report (ATR) in the matter within six weeks positively, failing which the Commission shall be constrained to invoke coercive steps u/s 13 of PHR Act.
The Commission issued the directives on Wednesday on a complaint received from Human Rights activist Rabindra Kumar Mishra who stated that two workers Suman (aged 23 years) and Saffique (26 years) died of asphyxia inside a septic tank at a newly constructed house in Sisupalgarh’s Raghunath Nagar under Dhauli police station, Bhubaneswar.
As per press clipping enclosed with the complaint, both the victims stepped into septic tank to remove the support beams when they became unconscious. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
The complainant has prayed for Commission’s intervention in the matter and suitable compensation to the Next of the kin of both the deceased.
The Commission took the cognizance of the matter and directs the Registry to transmit the complaint to the District Magistrate, and the Superintendent of Police,
The commission further ordered that any communication by public authorities in this matter may please be sent to the Commission through the HRCNet Portal .
