Mumbai, Dec 9 : BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah on Saturday announced that the 2024 Women’s Premier League will be played in only one state due to logistical reasons and will begin from February.
“The tournament will start in February, and in terms of the venues, we will hold it in one state. For us, logistics are very important for us this time around. Next time, we will figure it out,” he told reporters after the auction here.
Shah made this remark amidst reports that the WPL could be held in Mumbai and Bengaluru. However, he did not disclose in which state the WPL will be held.
“We have Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh. There are so many places where we can host matches. In Gujarat also, we can do it in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and in Vadodara after a few years,” he said.
A decision will be arrived at after discussing it with the franchisee owners. “This is basically a joint call between the franchise and the BCCI. We will sit together and decide …,” he said.
The next edition of WPL will be even more successful, and the franchisee shelling out a big amount on uncapped India players shows their faith in them, Shah said.
The BCCI secretary also revealed that the IPL will begin in the last week of March and will ‘get over in late May’.
