Six institutions declared deemed universities in last five yrs: Subhas Sarkar
New Delhi, Dec 20 : Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that six Institutions have been declared as deemed universities by the Central government during the last five years.
In a written reply to a question regarding deemed and private universities, Sarkar said private universities are established by the Act of the State Legislature concerend. During the last five years, 140 private Universities have been established in the country.
He said all the institutions deemed to be universities and private universities have to follow the norms and standards prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as various statutory bodies such as All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Medical Commission (NMC), Dental Council of India (DCI), etc. The Guidelines issued by these statutory bodies are available on their respective websites.
UGC has informed that no major violations of its guidelines have been reported against these institutions. UGC has further informed that it regularly consults the Institutions/Universities and ensures that the norms are followed by them, Sarkar said.
