Sand excavation from Sun Temple kick-starts by the ASI after over 120 years

Much awaited sand excavation from within the Sun Temple in Konark has been initiated by the Archaeological Survey of India. After a prolonged wait and study over the possible safety aspect of the majestic shrine, the excavation of sand from within the interior the BDR constructions has given a start to the excavation by erecting an iron structure and a supporting mechanical platform.
It is said that the platform on which lifts and trolleys would manoeuvre and excavate sand.
The Bhumi Pujan for the excavation was solemnised earlier and the operation on excavation is targeted in three months. If everything goes well then it will be a text book mention in the history of the shrine and may be one of its kind in the world.
So many research and brain-storming has gone into it before this day as the safety of this world heritage is paramount also.
