Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sumitra Sen dies

Kolkata, Jan 3 : Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sumitra Sen, who lent her melodious
voice over the last five decades, passed away at her south Kolkata residence early on
Tuesday.
She was 89 and is survived by her two daughters.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is saddened and condoled Sumitra Sen’s demise.
The celebrated singer, who was ailing for a long time due to her age, was returned home
late last week from a city hospital, breached her last early on Tuesday.

Her daughter, the acclaimed singer Srabani Sen, has confirmed the news of her mother’s passing.
Early in the morning, Srabani took to her Facebook account, confirming the news of her mother’s demise.
She wrote, “Aaj Maa bhore chole gelen” ( the Mother left us at dawn).
Sen was suffering from breathing trouble and was admitted to the private hospital on December 29.
Her health was rapidly deteriorating, so her family returned her to her home, where she died.
Sumitra Sen was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while condoled the demise of Sen, said, the passing away of the singer has created a vacuum. She also left a legacy of many students, who are carrying
her teaching in Rabindra sangeet.
The state government had conferred her ” Sangeet Mahasanman” in 2012 for her contribution in the art and culture.
Banerjee also convey her sympathy to the surviving daughters Indrani and Sraboni and the family members of Sumitra Sen.
