Odisha cabinet approves separate directorate for Museum, Archaeology, Public Libraries
Bhubaneswar, Oct 20 (Updated) Odisha cabinet on Thursday approved the creation of a separate directorate for Museums, Archeology and Public libraries.
The decision to establish a separate directorate on Public libraries was taken by the first heritage cabinet while the decision to have a directorate on Archaeology and Museums was taken at the second heritage cabinet in the past.
Official sources said the creation of a separate directorate on public libraries would facilitate coordination and effective management of public libraries in the districts and blocks in the state.
The creation of a separate directorate for Archaeology was felt as there are ancient temples and monuments rich in cultural heritage that need preservation, protection, research and publicity.
The cabinet also approved the creation of required ministerial and technical posts for the directorate along with the creation of a separate Archaeological Curator and archaeological engineering wing.
The cabinet decided to have a separate directorate for Museums as such directorates existed in many other states for better management of Museums. The separate directorate on Museums in the state will work for the preservation, research and publicity of the rich heritage of cultural and artistic artifacts.
The cabinet approved the required ministerial and technical posts for the Directorate of Museum.
