Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 : Odisha, being the fourth largest state in fish production in the country ,has witnessed an annual growth rate of 31.50 percent, Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor Asit Tripathy on Thursday said.
The state has seen growth in fish production at an annual growth rate of 31.50 percent and has become self-reliant in the production of fish seed, he said.
Presiding over a review meeting of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department on Thursday, Tripathy said Odisha has become the seventh largest state in the production of marine fish in the country and is also leading in the export of fish.
The CM’s Principal Advisor said there has been a remarkable growth in the production, sale and distribution of fish in the state in the last five years.
Principal Secretary, Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department Suresh Kumar Vashishth told the meeting that AquaCulture Farm will be constructed in Hirakud Reservoir at a cost of Rs.100 crores where fish production facility, processing unit, general infrastructure will be constructed there.
The state government, Vashishth said, has taken many schemes to support freshwater fish farming. Fish production in the state has increased to 7.62 lakh metric tons.
A plan will be prepared for fish farming in the brackish water in Coastal Odisha, he said.
